PHILIPPINE TASK FORCE AGAINST POLITICAL VIOLENCE (TF 211) RELEASES ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT

Manila - The Task Force Against Political Violence (TF 211), a special body created by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to mobilize government agencies, political groups, religious and sectoral organizations, and civil society for the prevention, investigation and prosecution of political violence cases, recently released its accomplishment report.

According to the said report, since its inception on 27 November 2007, TF 211's cooperative efforts have lead to the filing of seven (7) cases in court and one case with the prosecutor's office, the arrest of two (2) accused individuals, the reactivation of four (4) cold cases, the adjudication of three (3) cases by the court, and the dismissal of nine (9) cases.

Most notable among the reactivated cold cases is that against Mayor Alfredo Arsenio of Lezo, Aklan, who is accused of killing DYIN station manager/radioman Herson Hinolan on 13 November 2004.  Mayor Arsenio voluntarily surrendered to the Provincial Police Director (PPD) in Aklan on 5 March 2008 after 3 1/2 years in hiding and after the PPD was pressured by Task Force 211.  The case is now on trial before the Regional Trial Court, Branch 4, of Kalibo, Aklan after being archived since 2004. - END -
