PHILIPPINE CONSULATE TO CONDUCT 2ND ORIENTATION SEMINAR FOR NEW FILIPINO  IMMIGRANTS, AND WORKERS

 

HAGATNA - The Philippine Consulate General wishes to announce that it will conduct the 2nd orientation seminar for new Filipino immigrants and overseas workers in Guam on  Saturday, 05 April 2008 from 1:00 to 5:00pm at the Dededo Community Center. The 2nd Post-Arrival Orientation Seminar aims to familiarize newly arrived Filipinos in Guam with the laws and regulations that are pertinent to their stay on the island. Important issues related to labor laws, immigration, taxation, banking, programs for housing, education and health care and also the law on domestic violence will be discussed.

            The Philippine Consulate General has partnered with the Guam Department of Labor, the U.S. Department of Labor, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Guam Department of Health and Social Services, Victim's Advocates Reaching Out (VARO) and the Dededo Mayor's office in arranging this seminar. Speakers from these partner-agencies have been lined up to speak  about developments in their respective areas of concern. A question and answer session will follow after each presentation.

             Consulate personnel will also be on hand to extend consular services (passport, visa, notarials) during the seminar.

            All newly-arrived Filipino immigrants and overseas Filipino workers are invited to attend the seminar.  Those who have been in the island for over a year or more,but who have questions about immigration, labor, taxation, health and social services and/or consular matters may also attend  this seminar.

            Admission to this seminar is free. Those who wish to attend the seminar should, however, pre-register not later than 03 April 2008 by calling up the Philippine Consulate General at telephone numbers 646-4620 or 646-4630 and ask for Ms. Aberin or Ms. Bernardino.
